Moroccan Health Insurance Fund Reverses Course, Will Cover COVID-19 Expenses

The National Fund for Social Welfare Organizations (CNOPS) has reversed its decision and will ultimately reimburse its policyholders for medical expenses related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision not to reimburse coronavirus-related expenses had been very poorly received by policyholders, which led to consultations between the Minister of Economy, Mohamed Benchaaboun, and the Insurance and Social Welfare Control Authority.
A meeting is scheduled for next week and will be devoted to "studying the possibilities of ensuring the reimbursement and coverage of benefits related to Covid-19 for policyholders," in compliance with medical requirements and financial standards. It will also ensure that the reimbursement does not affect the financial balance of CNOPS.
