Morocco to Streamline Passport Applications with Digital Process, Interior Minister Says

Changes are in store for Moroccan passports, whether for applications or renewals, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has just announced.
Thus, Moroccans will be able to apply for their passport or renew it without having to travel, the minister said in a response to parliament. Concretely, it will be enough to use the electronic national identity card (CNIE) or the biometric passport to make the request.
In his response, the minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve the digitization process and assured that guarantees are in place to protect citizens against potential errors or the loss of electronic stamps. He also mentioned the ten-year validity of these stamps, committing to provide a reliable service.
And the minister recalled that his department has issued some 1,139,206 biometric passports, an average of 5,348 passports per day this year, which has significantly reduced waiting times during peak periods between April and August, stating that they have processed some 11,000 applications in just a few days.
Regarding the confidentiality of data, the minister also stated that his department has adopted a secure cloud, allowing to ensure the fluidity and speed of procedures as well as the protection of the personal data of Moroccans.
