The Ministry of the Interior "is about to finalize a project that will allow citizens to submit their passport application or renewal requests remotely, without having to go to the administrative services," Laftit said, during the presentation of the ministry’s budget before the Interior and Local Authorities Committee.
The minister also said that his department is preparing the implementing texts of Law No. 86.21 on firearms, their parts, components, accessories and ammunition, recently promulgated. The ministry has also updated the system relating to permits for visible firearms and hunting. During the 2023-2024 period, the ministry issued 70,364 permits for visible firearms and hunting, Laftit said.
The official also specified that the ministry has set up a framework of cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the League of Arab States and the European Union in order to combat the illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons. Also, the actions of the security forces of the kingdom have made it possible to reduce the illicit production of cannabis by 79%, with the cultivable areas expected to be set at 27,148 hectares in 2024.
