Morocco to Launch Online Passport Application Service

While the debate on extending the validity of Moroccan passports is raging, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, announced the upcoming implementation of a new online passport application service.
This project, currently in the final testing phase, will allow Moroccans to apply for or renew their passport remotely, without having to physically go to the administration offices.
Specifically, Moroccans will be able to fill out the forms and provide the necessary documents through a dedicated digital platform. The stated objective of the Ministry of the Interior is twofold: to simplify the lives of citizens by avoiding trips and queues, and to decongest the often overloaded local administrations.
The ministry assures that the platform is being finalized and will comply with all data security and confidentiality standards.
It remains to be seen whether this new measure will be enough to appease the criticism regarding the validity of passports, which remains set at 5 years compared to 10 years for the national identity card.
