Morocco Unveils Plan to Modernize National Bus Station Network

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, lifted a corner of the veil on the project to modernize and professionalize the bus stations in Morocco.
Towards a modernization of bus stations? The Minister of the Interior assured that his department is working to improve the management and services of these urban transport infrastructures. In his response to a written question from the parliamentary group of the Popular Movement at the House of Representatives, Abdelouafi Laftit outlined the main lines of the government’s strategy to modernize and professionalize bus stations.
In this context, the Moroccan Executive, through the General Directorate of Local Authorities, provides legal, technical and financial assistance to municipalities in the creation, rehabilitation and management of bus stations. This, in order to ensure more efficient and more professional management of these infrastructures in the perspective of the 2030 Football World Cup that Morocco will organize, jointly with Spain and Portugal.
Thus, the Ministry of the Interior plans to accelerate the digitalization of bus station services. This involves setting up an interconnected information system between the kingdom’s bus stations, which will consist of a unified application for coach transport, a dedicated website for online booking and ticket purchase, and a pre-booking system. The objective being to improve services and streamline passenger traffic.
This modern system will facilitate the purchase of tickets at a single counter, the management of luggage and shipments, the announcement of departures and arrivals, as well as the administrative and financial monitoring of bus stations, it is pointed out. It will also allow managers to analyze real-time data on traffic, revenue and expenditure, in order to make adjustments or anticipate needs. It will also help to streamline traffic with the introduction of automated access control.
