Morocco's Social Security Enrollment Surges: 3.5 Million Workers Registered in 2019

From 1.5 million insured in 2005, the number of declared employees has increased to more than 3.5 million in 2019, i.e. a rate of 85% of the total private sector employees. This was announced by Abdellatif Mortaki, the acting Director General of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), on Thursday, December 19 in Casablanca.

Several factors have contributed to achieving these achievements, including the overall mobilization of CNSS executives and employees in this area, said Abdellatif Mortaki during a seminar on "the role of the public prosecutor in the extension of social protection in Morocco".

According to him, there is also the improvement of the attractiveness of the system, which now includes mandatory health insurance (AMO) coverage and the adoption of a new communication approach towards companies aimed at raising their awareness of the importance of declaring their employees.

The acting Director General of the CNSS welcomed the efforts made by the fund, which is a key player in the social protection system, to increase the social and medical coverage rate of those subject to the social security system.

"We are gradually implementing the laws of social protection and medical coverage for the self-employed, professionals and non-salaried workers, whose number is close to 4 million people," assured Abdellatif Mortaki.
