In Morocco, 75,909 women earn 10,000 dirhams and more, compared to 171,485 men for the same amount. These data were published by the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), which stressed that many of the declared salaries are below the minimum wage (SMIG).

Over the past five years, the number of declared employees has increased by an average of 3.4% per year. Women employees represent 32% of all declared employees. This rate was 22% in 1990. As for the distribution of employees by sector of activity, the CNSS points out in its activity report that 21% of the declared employees in 2019 come from the services sector, followed by industry with 18%, trade with 15%, and construction with 14%, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.

By region, it is Casablanca that tops the ranking with 38% of employees, followed by Agadir, Tangier with 11% each. The same report points out that 49% of women receive less than the SMIG against 43% of men. The average monthly declared salary in 2019 stands at 5,255 DH against 5,188 DH in 2018. It should be noted that 31% of employees are declared for less than 6 months; 25% of employees are declared throughout the year.

The CNSS report reveals that the financial and insurance activities sector recorded the highest average monthly salary and the highest average number of days worked, reaching 14,937 DH and 281 days respectively, compared to a global average of 5,255 DH and 214 days per year. It is followed by the information and communication sector, which generates an average salary of 11,686 DH for 248 days worked on average. The three least paid sectors are: construction, accommodation and catering, and agriculture, forestry and fishing, the same source specifies.
