Morocco Signals Thaw in Relations with Germany After Diplomatic Rift

Morocco has reacted to Germany’s outstretched hand. Is a warming of diplomatic relations between the two countries, broken off due to deep misunderstandings on fundamental issues of the kingdom, particularly the Sahara issue, on the horizon?
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Morocco says it appreciates the positive announcements and constructive positions recently made by the new German federal government. Berlin has recently expressed its willingness to turn the page on misunderstandings and rebuild stronger relations with Rabat. "It is in the interest of the two countries to restore ’good’ and ’expanded’ diplomatic relations," it specified, describing the kingdom as a "central partner".
These announcements make it possible to envisage a relaunch of bilateral cooperation and the return to normal of the work of the diplomatic representations of the two countries in Rabat and Berlin, the ministry points out. Morocco also hopes that these statements will be accompanied by actions to reflect a new mindset and mark a new start to the relationship based on clarity and mutual respect, adds the same source.
