Germany Seeks to Mend Ties with Morocco Amid Diplomatic Thaw

The diplomatic crisis between Rabat and Berlin could soon be resolved. Berlin has expressed its willingness to rebuild stronger relations with the Kingdom.
This turnaround by the German authorities comes after a report from the German intelligence services, revealing Berlin’s hostility towards Rabat. Thus, it is through a laudatory communiqué towards Morocco that Germany has rejected the conclusions of this report.
In this note from its embassy in Rabat, Germany denied this report, specifying that its author, Isabelle Werenfels, is a specialist in Maghreb issues, within the German Institute for International and Security Affairs and therefore has no relationship with the foreign intelligence services.
As for the diplomatic crisis with Morocco, Berlin said it was determined to turn the page on misunderstandings and rebuild stronger ties with the Kingdom. "It is in the interest of both countries to restore ’good’ and ’expanded’ diplomatic relations," qualifying the Kingdom as a "central partner," it specified.
In line with the will of Nasser Bourita, who called for reviewing Morocco-German relations on a basis of reciprocity and mutual respect, Berlin also expressed its availability to look to the future and lay the foundations for a mutually beneficial partnership of equals.
