Morocco and Germany Agree to Restore Diplomatic Ties and Expand Cooperation

Morocco and Germany have committed to establishing "close and friendly relations" and to initiate a new dialogue to "overcome misunderstandings in their relations".
The two countries "have agreed to resume cooperation in all areas and to involve all stakeholders," says a joint statement issued after a virtual meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.
The ministers also praised the great potential of the relationship between Morocco and Germany, reaffirming their shared interest in giving it an additional boost in line with the challenges and requirements of the post-Covid recovery, the statement continues.
On this occasion, the German Foreign Minister welcomed the return of the Moroccan Ambassador to Berlin, while announcing the imminent arrival of the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rabat.
In May 2021, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Berlin for consultations following what Rabat considered "deep misunderstandings" with Germany on issues that Morocco considers essential to its sovereignty.
