Morocco Set to Receive 4.2 Million Covid-19 Vaccine Doses from Multiple Sources

Morocco will receive, in the next few days, 4.2 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Russia, South Korea and China, in order to achieve herd immunity before the summer. This announcement was made by a Moroccan official.
Morocco expects to receive an additional 4.2 million doses shortly, said Said Afif, a member of the scientific committee of the Ministry of Health. This includes 2 million additional doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, 1 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and 1.2 million additional doses of AstraZeneca manufactured in South Korea and purchased through the Covax vaccine sharing program, the official details.
These new vaccine shipments come in a context marked by the temporary closure by India of all major exports of the AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). "Morocco is adopting a strategy of anticipation to ensure that the vaccination campaign continues regularly regardless of the delays announced by the AstraZeneca manufacturer in India," explained Said Afif.
A source from the Moroccan Ministry of Health confirmed that the new vaccine shipments are expected in the coming days, without providing details. To date, Morocco has received 8.5 million doses of vaccines: 7 million doses of the British AstraZeneca vaccine and 1.5 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. As of March 27, 4,302,183 people have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 3,332,292 people have received the first injection.
