Morocco Seizes Record 179 Tons of Cannabis in 2019, Police Report Shows

The year 2019 has not been easy for the police services, which have seized more than 179 tons of cannabis. The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) emphasized this in a press release.
The operations against drugs and psychotropic substances also led to the seizure of 179.657 tons of hashish and its derivatives, or more than 127 tons compared to 2018. As for other narcotics, the harvest was very abundant this year. The report drawn up by the DGSN speaks of 542.455 kilograms of cocaine, 7.196 kilograms of heroin and 1,407,451 psychotropic tablets, including 974,983 ecstasy tablets imported from Europe.
Regarding the number of people arrested in drug-related cases, the DGSN indicates that 127,049 people were arrested, an increase of 38% compared to last year. The quantities of drugs seized have also reached a record, thanks to the joint operations of the National Security services and those of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
It should also be noted the organization and success of eight controlled drug delivery operations in collaboration with the French police, which led to the arrest of 12 traffickers and the seizure of more than 8.580 tons of cannabis resin (chira) on French territory, the same source specifies.
