Massive Cannabis Bust: 16 Tons Seized at Moroccan Port Bound for Europe

16.2 tons of cannabis resin hidden in a truck bound for Europe were seized last Monday at the port of Tanger-Med (northern Morocco).
The truck driver, a 35-year-old Moroccan, had hidden the drugs in wooden crates, on board a trailer connected to an internationally registered Moroccan transport truck, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
Arrested, the suspect was taken into custody. In addition, an investigation has been opened to "arrest all the people involved in this criminal network and determine its possible ramifications in Morocco and Europe," the same source said.
In 2019, the Moroccan police seized some 179 tons of cannabis, compared to about 50 a year earlier, according to an official report presented last Monday.
