Morocco Reports New COVID-19 Clusters as Cases Surpass 7,000

In Morocco, three new outbreaks of Covid-19 contamination have been discovered in three regions: Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Fès-Meknès and Casablanca-Settat.
The Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Lyoubi, indicated on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, that Morocco continues to see the number of new infections rise in the form of outbreaks after crossing the 7,000 case mark for coronavirus carriers. Most of the new cases recorded are in the context of monitoring contacts of patients previously tested positive for the coronavirus, and represent 95 cases out of 110, or 85% of them, it is specified.
Once again, several cases of contamination have been recorded in Casablanca in a new industrial outbreak and other cases in an outbreak that was already being monitored by the health authorities. Other new outbreaks have been discovered in the Fès-Meknès and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima regions.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health, the Casablanca-Settat region remains the most affected by the coronavirus (more than 30%) with a total of 2,190 cases, with an increase of 70 cases on Wednesday, followed by Marrakech-Safi with 1,296 cases, an increase of 2 cases, accounting for 18% of the cases recorded in the kingdom.
The Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and Fès-Meknès regions recorded 981 cases, including 10 cases on Wednesday, and 980 cases, including 20 cases, respectively. One new contamination was recorded in each of the regions of the Oriental, Béni Mellal-Khenifra and Souss Massa. The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region recorded 5 new coronavirus infections, bringing the number of cases to 680. No cases were recorded in the southern regions.
