Morocco Ranks 2nd Globally in Digital Quality of Life Index, Study Finds

Morocco is in the second global ranking of "digital quality of life" established by Surfshark.

This ranking, carried out by Surfshark, a VPN provider based in the Virgin Islands, compares the digital quality of life in 85 countries, representing 81% of the world’s population, or 6.3 billion individuals, according to the Quality of Life Index 2020. It takes into account five indicators, namely the affordability of the Internet, network quality, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and e-government.

With the health crisis of the coronavirus that has led to the development of telework and videoconferencing, this ranking is of particular importance. In detail, the top spots are occupied by Denmark and Sweden with a score of 0.79 points. They slightly outperform Canada (0.78 points), France (0.77 points) and Norway (0.75 points).

In addition to Morocco, five other African countries are included in this ranking, namely South Africa, Tunisia, Kenya, Nigeria and Algeria. The Kingdom is ranked 3rd in Africa with a score of 0.43 points, placing it 70th worldwide.

According to the same source, the best performances are observed at the level of the e-government criteria (0.59 points and 72nd worldwide), internet quality (0.57 points and 71st worldwide), electronic infrastructure (0.57 points and 70th worldwide) and cybersecurity (0.41 points and 63rd worldwide). In addition, Morocco gains 0.02 points in terms of internet affordability (71st worldwide). Morocco is ahead of South Africa and Tunisia.
