Morocco Climbs 10 Spots in Global Terrorism Index, Ranks Among Least Impacted Nations

Morocco ranks 102nd out of 163 countries in the global ranking of countries least impacted by terrorism, according to the Global Terrorism Index (GTI). It thus gains 10 places compared to 2019 with a score of 0.565.
This annual index, which is in its eighth edition, is developed by the main think tank of the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP). It is the most comprehensive source of information on global terrorism trends. Countries are ranked from the "most impacted country" (score: 10) to the "least impacted country" (score: 0) by terrorism, it is indicated.
Among the indicators taken into account are the number of terrorist incidents, deaths, injuries and property damage. The report specifies that Morocco has suffered nine terrorist attacks between 2007-2019, resulting in 32 deaths. In detail, the kingdom ranks 4th behind the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Mauritania, in the MENA region. It is ranked 2nd in the Maghreb region, behind Mauritania, which occupies the 135th place, with a score of 0, i.e. in the category of the safest countries.
As for Algeria, it occupies the third rank (65th global rank) with a score of 2.696, followed by Tunisia (49th with a score of 3.858) and Libya (16th with a score of 6.25). As for the countries most affected by terrorism; Afghanistan is in first place with a score of 9.595 out of 10. This is followed by Iraq with a score of 8.682, Nigeria (8.314), Syria (7.778), Somalia (7.645), Yemen (7.581), Pakistan (7.541).
