Morocco Ranks 121st in UN Human Development Index, Life Expectancy a Key Factor

Morocco ranks 121st out of 189 countries in the new ranking of the Human Development Index (HDI) published by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
This year, Morocco is classified in the category of countries with "medium human development" with a score of 0.686. It is positioned in the same rank as in 2019. In the MENA region, Morocco is positioned behind Algeria (91st) and Tunisia (95th) but ahead of Mauritania ranked 157th.
These countries are evaluated on the basis of several criteria, including life expectancy, schooling, access to health services, and income per capita. Two other criteria were taken into account this year by the UNDP. These are carbon dioxide emissions and the footprint that countries place on resources.
The UNDP report indicates that life expectancy in Morocco is 76.7 years (77.9 years for women versus 75.4 years for men), the same report indicates. As for the gender inequality index, the Kingdom ranks 111th with a score of 0.454. With regard to the number of deaths per 100,000 births, the country has reached 70, while the percentage of the population under 25 who have reached the secondary education level is 29.1% for men and 36% for women.
The UNDP also specifies that girls have 13.33 years of schooling compared to 14.1 for boys. The same report announces that women’s access to care has improved significantly. As for the proportion of medically assisted deliveries, it reached 86.6% between the period 2014 to 2019.
