Morocco Ramps Up COVID-19 Test Production: Startup to Make 1 Million PCR Kits Monthly

The MAScIR research and development center has invested 20 million dirhams to equip the Moldiag startup with laboratory equipment that will allow it to produce one million or more diagnostic kits per month. Nawal Chraibi, CEO of MAScIR, talks about it.
"We took all this time, three months since the conference held in June, to prepare the Moldiag startup," she tells Médias24. This startup is dedicated to large-scale production of the kits developed by the center. "The cost of the investment made is around 20 million dirhams in laboratory equipment. These 20 million dirhams have made it possible to equip Moldiag with the necessary equipment and facilities to automate production (RT PCR machines, viabilization, labeling, quality control, logistics chain security, etc.)," explains Nawal Chraibi.
According to her, the startup’s current production capacity is one million tests per month. "This capacity is scalable depending on market conditions. As soon as we have visibility for planning, we will adapt. We can at any time exceed one million kits per month," she adds. The director estimates that this capacity can reach up to 5 to 6 million kits per month. She says that the current monthly capacity allows Morocco to secure 45 days of testing at a rate of 22,000 tests per day.
