Morocco Develops Domestic COVID-19 Test Kit, Plans 10,000 Units by June

Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research (MAScIR) has decided to support the national effort. In this regard, it plans to manufacture 10,000 Covid-19 diagnostic kits by the end of June 2020.
Speaking to the press, the CEO stated that this new Covid-19 diagnostic kit was designed in record time. According to her, it has been "recognized for its uniqueness in terms of its composition, characteristics and sensitivity after being compared to the routine kits used in reference laboratories at the national level.
For Nawal Chraibi, the device, once validated by her laboratory, has been the subject of clinical trials on a sample of 450 Covid-19 patients. In her presentation, she specified that at the current stage, the set objective is to reach 10,000 kits before the end of June 2020, and then move towards a more significant production capable of meeting the national need.
As for the researchers from the Medical Biotechnology Center of the MAScIR Foundation and members of the team responsible for designing the kit, they pointed out that this kit, which required 2 months of work, went through three main stages. These are the extraction of the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of the SARS-COV 2 virus, the reverse transcriptase, and the detection amplification of the virus. They also stated that once developed, this test was subjected to a series of validation processes in reference biological and virological centers.
