Morocco’s Prime Minister Faces Challenges in Forming Streamlined Government
Friday 16 August 2019, by
For the formation of the new Government, the leaders of the political parties do not want second-rate positions. To this end, the Head of the Executive will be confronted with the war of positions, to carry out his new policy ordered by King Mohammed VI.
No more XXL government for the Moroccan Government! For this new formation of his team, El Othmani intends to reduce the number of positions. To do this, he plans to inform the leaders of the political parties in his majority. The task is likely to be difficult. The other difficult equation for El Othmani is the maintenance of certain figures from whom he will have difficulty separating, due to their political weight in their party, in favor of new arrivals, with more interesting profiles than the others.
The only way out for the Head of the Executive and which is likely to be detrimental to him is to entrust these "unavoidable" figures with the positions of Secretary of State and have them move from the status of super minister to that of undersecretary. These barons will surely not let it go. They intend to oppose it with all their might, even if it means provoking a major political crisis.
This eventuality is currently at the heart of the debates in the headquarters of the majority parties. Some leaders intend to adopt technocrats in their ranks.
