Morocco’s Police Chief Calls for Strict Neutrality in Upcoming Elections

Regional security and safety officials must observe absolute impartiality and neutrality during the upcoming elections. This is an instruction from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).
This reminder is intended to ensure the proper role of the representatives of the authorities during the vote on September 8, reports Al Massae, adding that instructions have also been given to anticipate the preparations for these elections.
Referring to the texts in force, Abdellatif Hammouchi recommended that the officials take urgent measures with regard to the authority agents who have links with candidates in the upcoming elections.
Calling for vigilance in the application of these provisions, the DGSN has drawn the attention of all police officers to the importance of reporting all violations of the law before, during and after the elections until the end of the vote counting.
To this end, the newspaper notes, offices and toll-free numbers will be dedicated to receiving complaints from both voters and candidates. The police services should treat them seriously and promptly before transmitting them to the competent public prosecutor’s office.
In doing so, a permanent service will be provided in all identity data registration centers to welcome and process requests for anthropometric identity cards. These centers will be open, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
