Morocco Bans Summer Leave for Officials Ahead of September Elections

As the legislative, regional and municipal elections scheduled for the very first time on the same day, September 8, 2021, approach, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelaouafi Laftit, is mobilizing managers at various levels for their success. In this sense, it has been forbidden for walis, governors and authority agents of certain services to take summer vacations.
No summer vacation for walis, governors, authority agents and managers of the central administration. This is the decision taken by the Minister of the Interior who has also instructed his collaborators to implement it. The preparation of the legislative, regional and municipal elections to be held on September 8, 2021 is at the origin of this decision, reports Al Massae. However, the officials concerned are granted five days of rest. To leave the territories they administer, they must have an exceptional leave of absence, it is specified.
The walis and governors are already active in the preparations for the upcoming elections. Expanded meetings are being organized. Meetings with the various security services, heads of external services and presidents of municipalities and professional chambers as well. In accordance with the instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of the Interior and the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office are coordinating their actions in order to prosecute those who undermine the elections.
