Morocco Permanently Closes Smuggling Routes to Spanish Enclaves Ceuta and Melilla

Smuggling is no longer allowed in Ceuta and Melilla. The Moroccan government has decided to permanently close its border posts with the Spanish enclaves to hamalas (carriers) and major smugglers.
According to the newspaper El Español, the movement of people and vehicles will only be done via the Tarajal 1 post, the Moroccan authorities having decided to close Tarajal 2 and to automate the control of visitors at the Beni Nsar and Ferkhana crossings.
The smart borders will allow Morocco to receive goods at the ports of the kingdom, specifies the daily, which adds that in the absence of a Moroccan-Spanish agreement defining a new border model with a tourist character, the customs posts will remain closed permanently.
The inhabitants of Nador who, until last March, only needed their national identity card to cross into Melilla, will now have to present their passports to the police and customs officers as soon as the borders reopen.
Furthermore, the kingdom does not rule out the possibility of permanently closing the border posts of Ceuta and Melilla, if Madrid agrees to the request of the local authorities of the two cities to integrate the Schengen area.
