Morocco Outlines Four-Point Plan for Gradual Easing of Lockdown Measures

Four criteria will condition the lifting of confinement in Morocco, which will have to be done in stages and in compliance with preventive measures adapted to the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the country.

According to the statements of the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, to the foreign media Arabi Post, the first phase of deconfinement, "gradualism", will be progressive and will have to be accompanied by proactive measures, capable of avoiding the rebound effects of the pandemic.

The "geographical and local dimension" comes second among the criteria put forward by the head of the executive. This principle takes into account the epidemiological incidence in each region of the country. The outbreaks of contamination being concentrated in Casablanca and Marrakech, in particular.

The deconfinement plan will be based on a third prerequisite, namely, the flexibility of the measures taken and the possibility of reconsidering the decisions and restrictions put in place.

The fourth principle will allow "positive social discrimination", by proposing the care of vulnerable subjects such as the elderly or people with chronic diseases.

The success of the deconfinement plan will depend on the degree of involvement and commitment of all the structures of society, warns Saâdeddine El Othmani, in particular the respect of the necessary barrier gestures.
