Morocco to Begin Phased Reopening on June 20, Easing COVID-19 Restrictions

After lifting the lockdown measures in small towns, the government is about to ease the lockdown measures across the country. Thus, from June 20, there will be a gradual lifting of restrictive measures in major cities every 10 days through the reopening of hotels, the resumption of rail and air traffic, depending on the epidemiological situation in each region.
Morocco wants to gradually lift the lockdown measures, as recommended by the health authorities. To this end, the government should announce on June 20 a series of measures as part of the deconfinement, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The second stage of the easing of these measures will be launched on June 30 and the third on July 10, which coincides with the expiration of the state of health emergency period. The reports of the epidemiological situation assessment operations carried out since June 11 by the vigilance and monitoring committees will support the government in ensuring this gradual transition.
Based on these reports provided by the vigilance committees composed of walis, governors and representatives of health and security services, the government will ease as of June 20 the restrictive measures concerning tourism with the opening of hotels, depending on the conditions set by the Ministry of Health and related, in particular, to the accommodation capacity.
For the same media, the resumption of rail and air traffic between the regions least affected by the pandemic should take place on June 30. This resumption will be followed by the gradual opening of cafes and restaurants and the authorization of gatherings of less than 50 people, while respecting social distancing rules.
As for large gatherings, they will be prohibited as long as the state of emergency is not lifted. These gatherings include parties, weddings, festivals, moussems, conferences, hammams and sports clubs. The total lifting of the state of emergency will probably not take place until the end of August with the resumption of major sporting, cultural and other events, provided that the health situation allows it.
