Technically, the UT30 MK2 turret incorporates a 30 mm main cannon, a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). It can also accommodate the “Iron Fist” active protection system, designed by Elbit to intercept grenades and missiles. This configuration provides 360-degree defensive coverage, strengthening the security of Moroccan infantry during ground deployments.

Local production and strategic cooperation

This military reinforcement comes with a major industrial component involving the local production of WhAP 8x8 armored vehicles. The first batch of these vehicles, designed by Indian company Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), was recently delivered from the plant in Berrechid, located south of Casablanca. This industrial ecosystem currently operates with a national integration rate of 35%, with authorities planning to reach 50% soon.

The modernization program aims to replace the old fleet of troop carriers, particularly the French-made VAB models. Estimates indicate an initial order of 150 vehicles equipped with these Israeli turrets, with the ambition of expanding the fleet to more than 400 units. The choice of the WhAP 8x8 provides significant flexibility, making it possible to consider future fire-support versions with 105 mm or 120 mm calibers.
