Morocco’s National Team Hit by Injuries Ahead of Key Africa Cup Qualifiers
A few weeks before the matches against Mauritania and Burundi, counting for the qualifying rounds of the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), the list of players who will be part of these two expeditions is still not known. Vahid Halilhodzic, very irritated by the injuries of certain Moroccan internationals, is still in the observation phase.
The national coach will have to make his list without the majority of the players who play in Europe and whom he was planning to call up. According to the newspaper Assabah, the players Hamza Mendyl, Oussama El Idrissi, and Yassine Boujellab could not be on the list. The same goes for Mohamed Bouldini, the Academica striker in Portugal. Halilhodzic is also awaiting news on the fitness of Noussair Mezraoui and Youness Abdelhamid, both injured, before releasing his list.
To strengthen the team in the absence of these players who play in Europe, the national coach plans to call up several players who have shone during the Botola and the African Nations Championship. For its part, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation is trying to speed up the process that could allow Adam Masina, from Watford, to wear the jersey of the Atlas Lions for the first time in his career.
