Morocco’s Mustapha Hadji Promoted Within Football Federation Despite CAN Disappointment

Friday 16 August 2019, by Bladi.net

While the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has arranged to part ways with French coach Hervé Renard, the former coach of the Atlas Lions, it has instead decided to keep Mustapha Hadji, who was one of Renard’s close collaborators and had acknowledged his share of responsibility in the national team’s debacle at the 2019 CAN in Egypt.

All those who dreamed of Mustapha Hadji’s departure will have to wait a long time. Indeed, instead of being fired, the former glory of Moroccan football has just been promoted to a new position of responsibility by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which thus proves that it has not withdrawn its confidence in him.

Certainly, Mustapha Hadji will no longer be the assistant to the national coach, as in the time of Renard. However, the former African Ballon d’Or 1998 will assume the position of Assistant to Patrice Beaumelle at the head of the national Olympic team, reports Le360.

To recall, the two technicians, who had been very close to Hervé Renard, are invested with a new mission, namely "to qualify the Moroccan U23s for the next Tokyo 2020 Olympics".

Already, Patrice Beaumelle has summoned 22 players for a training camp from August 17 to 27, 2019, in Maamoura, in order to prepare the next match of the U23s who will face Mali next month in the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, according to the same source.
