Morocco Coach Renard Resigns Amid Team Tensions and Potential Revelations

Hervé Renard’s resignation is confirmed by Fouzi Lekjaâ, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). However, the departure of the French technician could well give rise to disclosures about the toxic atmosphere that prevailed within the "Atlas Lions".

It is an open secret that the atmosphere prevailing in the den was not free of crises. We remember that misunderstandings between certain players had almost blown the Hervé Renard group apart, on the eve of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt, which has just seen the triumph of Algeria. Now that the French technician has made the decision to leave, some fear that his departure will give rise to a wave of denunciations and disclosures.

We could even say that a new crisis has just begun. And it is Renard himself who seems to have given the start by choosing to respond to the "attacks" of his former Assistant. Indeed, in an interview with El Botola, the French coach attacked the former glory of Moroccan football, Mustapha Hadji.

"The strong point of an assistant coach is that he must not exceed his field of competence. The people who pushed him to speak put him in an embarrassing situation. After Badou Zaki, he turned to Hervé Renard. That’s not good," noted the now former coach of the "Atlas Lions", who, moreover, added, more clearly interpellative than ever: "The fact that you are a great Moroccan player does not give you all the rights and all the skills to allow you this kind of behavior. The most important thing is to respect the profession."

Hervé Renard is thus responding to his former Assistant, Mustapha Hadji who, a few days earlier, had let go on Radio "Mars", openly criticizing the choices of the French coach. "We made bad choices and we didn’t know how to find solutions against a team that finished the game with 10 players. We shouldn’t blame the players or the Federation, it’s the fault of the technical staff," Hadji said on the media, after the elimination of the "Atlas Lions" in the round of 16. "At one point, we may have made the mistake of managing the group physically. At that level, we made a big mistake, that’s for sure," he had also let go, among other remarks, thus expressing his disagreement with certain tactical choices of the French technician.
