Morocco Locks Down Coastal City of Safi as COVID-19 Cases Surge in Fish Factory

From Thursday to Sunday, the number of coronavirus infection cases reached 449 in Safi. The Moroccan authorities are taking the measure of the situation.
A focus of contamination was detected on Thursday in a professional environment. In total, 266 employees of a sardine canning unit have been declared positive for covid-19.
Since that day, this focus has caused the number of infections to rise in the Marrakech-Safi region (203 confirmed cases out of 310 at the national level on Sunday). In total, 449 cases of contamination have been recorded in Safi, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health.
Faced with this situation, the Moroccan authorities have isolated the city and imposed new health restrictions.
