Moroccan City of Safi Implements Lockdown Measures as COVID-19 Cases Surge

The Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region chaired a meeting on Saturday, during which a series of measures were adopted to deal with the appearance of new positive cases of covid-19 in Safi. This meeting was held in the presence of the governor of the province, regional and local security officials, the regional director and the provincial delegate of health as well as the local authorities.
During this meeting devoted to the examination "of the mechanisms likely to control the spread of the pandemic of the new coronavirus", the wali of the region called on all the participants to remain mobilized for the control and improvement of the epidemiological situation of the province.
Among the measures taken to deal with the situation, there is "the total closure of the 3rd urban district of the city of Safi where the positive cases of covid-19 are concentrated", "the closure and the prohibition of movements to and from the Cité des Océans", except in certain cases and "the immediate closure of the 18 conservation units, located in the city and the stoppage of the transport of their employees," reports the Map.
According to the same source, commercial premises and cafes will now close their doors at 6 p.m. for the former and 8 p.m. for the latter. The beach and the two neighborhood markets are prohibited from access, until further notice. Sterilization and disinfection operations at the district level will be carried out frequently, particularly in the areas where positive cases have been most detected. Public squares, parks and public transport will not escape the sterilization and disinfection process.
Given the speed with which positive cases have reappeared, the local authorities have decided to multiply "awareness and awareness campaigns" among the population who must be informed "of the measures taken as well as the care of confirmed cases in the hospitals of the city of Safi and other regions".
The authorities are counting on the good sense and patriotic spirit of the population of the wilaya of Marrakech-Safi in order to "control the spread of the pandemic for a return to normal life as soon as possible," the same source said.
