Marrakech Intensifies COVID-19 Prevention Measures Amid Case Surge

The surge in Covid-19 cases has prompted the local authorities of Marrakech to intensify the awareness of the population to the danger of the spread of the new coronavirus. The aim is to convince of the need to respect preventive measures such as wearing masks, hand washing and physical distancing.
In a statement, the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region indicated that these operations were launched following the "slackening recently recorded" among some inhabitants of the ochre city. The services of the Wilaya reiterate their "call to the inhabitants and invite them to scrupulously observe the preventive measures adopted".
It is a question of "regularly washing hands, compulsorily and correctly wearing protective masks, respecting social distancing, limiting travel except in case of extreme necessity, avoiding certain behaviors that can contribute to the spread of Covid-19, including gatherings of young people at the entrance of streets and neighborhoods, in order to protect their health and that of their families and loved ones".
In addition to these awareness-raising efforts, it has also been decided to "intensify control operations in order to sanction all offenders likely to threaten public health in accordance with the laws in force". Strict control of movements is carried out at the entrances to the city and between neighborhoods, the same source specifies.
