Morocco Launches Wastewater Analysis to Track COVID-19 Outbreaks

Moroccan authorities continue to multiply actions to significantly reduce cases of coronavirus contamination. Wastewater treatment will now be carried out to locate any potential outbreaks.

The appearance of several Covid-19 outbreaks, a few days after the easing of containment measures, is worrying. According to the Ministry of the Interior, it is important that this new method be added to the many others in place to detect the reasons behind the explosion of contamination cases.

During his speech at the meeting of the Interior Commission, Abdelouafi Laftit called on Moroccans not to "give in to panic due to the appearance of new clusters all over the country." He also noted that "awareness-raising operations among diabetics and others suffering from serious chronic diseases must be multiplied."

For his part, the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, indicated in a presentation before King Mohammed VI last Monday that "the country’s epidemiological situation remained relatively stable." Despite the multiplication of outbreaks, the minister explained that the situation would be due to "the expansion of the screening base and that there is no reason to be alarmed."
