Morocco Warns of COVID-19 Risks in Wastewater, Urges Regulatory Compliance

Studies conducted in several countries have confirmed the presence of traces of the coronavirus genome in wastewater from the stools of infected people. In a note addressed to the walis and governors, the Ministry of the Interior warns against the non-regulatory use of wastewater and the resulting risks of contamination.
These studies were carried out as part of the monitoring of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ministry of the Interior, in its note signed by the wali, director general of local authorities, stressed that "any use of wastewater is governed by the legislative and regulatory provisions in force".
This refers to "the water law, the decree relating to the use of wastewater and the order setting the quality standards for water intended for irrigation". Khalid Safir specifies "that no wastewater can be used if it has not been previously recognized as treated and compliant with the standard", reports Le360.
According to the same source, to avoid any possible spread of the coronavirus through this channel, "the walis and governors are invited to take the necessary measures to prohibit any non-regulatory use of wastewater".
