Morocco Launches New Subsidy Program for Struggling Hotels to Upgrade Infrastructure

The State will grant a new subsidy to hotel accommodation establishments that present "exceptional cases", in order to upgrade their infrastructure. The details of this operation have been published. Applications can be submitted until December 4th next.
After an initial phase of activating the granting of subsidies that aroused the enthusiasm of hotel operators throughout the national territory and all categories of establishments combined, the government has decided to launch a second operation to cover the support requests of the EHT representing the special cases.
In this sense, the Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company (SMIT) has just published the criteria of the Call for Expression of Interest (AMI) for this financial support. According to the document, this new phase concerns establishments in operation before December 31, 2021 and having recorded a total or partial absence (less than 03 months of operation) of activity during the year 2019 and/or establishments whose construction work has been completed.
This new phase also takes into account the hotel establishments in the Oriental and Draa Tafilalet regions that did not bid for the first AMI. For this category, the support will be calculated on the basis of 10% of the actual turnover achieved in 2019, it is specified.
