Marrakech Hotels to Receive 38% of Morocco’s Tourism Aid Package

A large part of the subsidies planned by the government to support the hotel sector should land in Marrakech. Out of the 495 applications filed, 187 come from the region, or 38% of the total aid.
Marrakech accounts for 40% of Morocco’s bed capacity with 80,000 beds, some of which are still closed due to the health crisis, reports l’Économiste, adding that this aid will allow undertaking renovation work to prepare for reopening.
According to the newspaper, the first subsidies should arrive in May. The Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering, in charge of granting this aid, has finished processing the first files of establishments whose applications are compliant.
According to the allocation criteria, establishments must commit not to pay dividends for 2021/2022/2023. They must also present projects to improve service or quality, without exceeding 10% of the turnover, realized for the 2019 fiscal year with a ceiling of 10 million DH.
To recall, the objective of this subsidy is to support hotel operators wishing to prepare for a rapid resumption of activity. It is part of the overall emergency plan for the tourism sector, established by the government, whose envelope is 2 billion DH. 80% of this budget is dedicated to improving the quality of the offer and 20% to the quality of the service, the newspaper recalls.
