Morocco Launches National Center to Boost Airport Security and Counter Terrorism

In order to effectively fight terrorism, Morocco has decided to strengthen its national system by equipping itself with a national center for processing passenger and flight information.

The creation of this new entity was made possible by the adoption of a new law, reports Assabah, specifying that it is draft decree No. 2.21.624, implementing Article 212 of the Civil Aviation Code.

Presented by the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, this law will allow Morocco to implement a project relating to the creation of a system for the prior processing of passenger data transiting through Moroccan airports (API/PNR)," the same source points out.

From now on, "the airline will be required to send the public authorities the API/PNR data relating to domestic and international commercial flights and to submit all flights to these procedures". This data will then be subject to a new scoring system, it is specified.

Placed under the authority of the Director General of National Security (DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi, the new center will be adapted to "the processing, analysis, exchange and preservation of information that airlines and aircraft operators send to the competent authorities," explained the minister, specifying that the DGSN will have to set "the technical conditions and means to ensure access to this computer system and the sending of this information, while ensuring their application."
