Morocco Tightens Aviation Security to Combat Terrorism and Organized Crime

The Council of Government decided on Thursday to strengthen its arsenal in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, by adopting a draft decree.
At the beginning of the session, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, presented draft decree No. 2.21.624 on the application of Article 212 of the Civil Aviation Code, before its adoption.
For the Delegate Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, by adopting this draft decree, the government intends to effectively fight terrorism and organized crime, while respecting the orientations and standards of international systems in this matter. This explains the implementation of a project related to the creation of a system for the prior processing of passenger data transiting through Moroccan airports (API/PNR).
"The draft decree now requires the airline to send the API/PNR data relating to domestic and international commercial flights to the public authorities and to submit all flights to these procedures," he continued. The national center for processing passenger and flight information to be created in this regard will be placed under the authority of the Director General of National Security.
