Marrakech Rattled: 4.5 Magnitude Aftershock Strikes as Reconstruction Efforts Forge Ahead

A seismic shock of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded this Wednesday at 4:25 am in the province of Al Haouz, near Oukaïmeden. The earthquake was felt by the inhabitants of Marrakech.
This earthquake is part of a series of aftershocks following the September 8, 2023 earthquake. According to Nacer Jabour, director of the National Institute of Geophysics (ING), these are "delayed aftershocks". He had previously explained that "seismic activity has greatly decreased in the region, but felt shocks can occur irregularly before reaching a new state of equilibrium". Another shock had been recorded on August 27 last in the commune of Ighil.
Parallel to this seismic activity, the reconstruction program of the affected areas continues. Available data indicate that a total of 46,650 families have been able to complete the construction or rehabilitation work on their homes damaged by the 2023 earthquake.
