Morocco’s King Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints New Government Spokesman

On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, King Mohammed VI entrusted the functions of government spokesman to Saaid Amzazi, Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and at the same time appointed Othman El Firdaouss, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, thus thanking Hassan Abyaba.
According to Maghreb Intelligence, several reasons explain the dismissal of Hassan Abyaba. The electronic media mentions blunders. One had been committed during the trip of the now former Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports to Nouakchott. He had mispronounced the name of the Mauritanian president, in his presence.
Hassan Abyaba also had difficulty accommodating his role as government spokesman. Reporting on the work of the government council was a difficult exercise for the former minister. "The comical linguistic acrobatics" multiplied incessantly. This caused the hilarity of Internet users and journalists.
The other reason that already announced his dismissal is his exclusion from any participation in the recent council of ministers. Hassan Abyaba will have spent five months within the government of Saâdeddine El Otmani.
