Morocco’s Government Spokesperson Faces Potential Dismissal Over Performance Concerns

Monday 4 November 2019, by Bladi.net

Hassan Abyaba, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Government Spokesperson, appointed by King Mohammed VI, could soon be dismissed from his duties. He is accused of his bland media appearances, which do not match the performance of his predecessor, Mustapha El Khalfi.

El Othmani is disappointed with the new Government Spokesperson’s performances, to the point of regretting the departure of the voluble El Khalfi, who so well assumed this role. At this rate, the current Minister of Culture could be the minister who has spent the least number of days in the Government.

According to Hespress, the Head of Government would be studying the possible replacement of Abyaba by another profile in the position of Spokesperson for his Executive. The same media reports that Abyaba "would not have the same charisma as his predecessor", especially when it comes to his media "performances".

And yet, Abyaba, aged 57, and appointed on October 10 by King Mohammed VI, holds a Doctorate in Geopolitics and Human Resources, in addition to being a university professor.

A member of the political bureau of the Constitutional Union (UC) party, of which he is the spokesperson, Abyaba was elected President of the Arab Liberal Federation (ALF), a network of liberal parties, NGOs and activists from Arab countries, in 2018, recalls the same source.
