Morocco’s King Mohammed VI Discusses Palestinian Cause with President Abbas Amid US Talks

King Mohammed VI had a telephone conversation on Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, during which the Sovereign informed him of his exchange with US President Donald Trump.
On this occasion, the Sovereign, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, reiterated the strong and constant solidarity of the Kingdom with the brotherly Palestinian people in defending their just cause and legitimate rights, particularly concerning the status of Al Quds Acharif. A position that the King has inherited from his late father, Hassan II.
For King Mohammed VI, negotiations between the two parties, Palestinian and Israeli, remain the only way to a definitive, lasting and comprehensive solution to the conflict.
As Commander of the Faithful, the Sovereign insists on the sacredness and unity of Jerusalem/Al Quds Acharif, and above all the respect and preservation of freedom of worship by the followers of the three monotheistic religions.
The Palestinian cause is of central importance, like the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. And all the actions taken by Morocco to support its sovereignty and establish its Moroccanness will never be to the detriment of the Palestinian people’s struggle for their legitimate rights.
With a special status, and a large Jewish community of Moroccan origin, several thousand of whom are settled in Israel, "Morocco will use all the provisions and contacts agreed between the Sovereign and the US President to promote peace in the region, and that this will in no way affect its constant and continuous commitment to the defense of the just Palestinian cause."
