US, Morocco, and Israel Sign Joint Declaration Amid Diplomatic Breakthrough

King Mohammed VI received, on Tuesday, December 22, in audience a delegation composed of Jared Kushner, senior advisor to outgoing US President Donald Trump, Meir Ben-Shabbat, Israel’s national security advisor and Avrahm Joel Berkowitz, special assistant to the President of the United States of America and special representative for international negotiations. At the end of the meeting, Morocco, the United States and Israel signed a joint declaration.
During the audience, King Mohammed VI reiterated his full satisfaction with the historic results of the interview the sovereign had on December 10, 2020 with outgoing US President Donald Trump. The presidential proclamation recognizing the Moroccanness of the Sahara, as well as the announced measures for the resumption of cooperation mechanisms with Israel, constitute major developments for strengthening regional peace and stability, according to a statement from the Royal Cabinet.
These measures concern the authorization of Israeli airlines to transport members of the Moroccan Jewish community and Israeli tourists to Morocco, the full resumption of contacts and diplomatic and official relations with Israel at the appropriate level, the promotion of a dynamic and innovative bilateral economic cooperation, and action towards the reopening of liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv, the same source specifies.
The sovereign congratulated Mr. Kushner for the substantial work accomplished since his visit to Morocco in May 2018, which has made it possible to achieve this historic turning point in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and this promising development for peace in the Middle East, the statement continues. Addressing Mr. Meir, King Mohammed VI underlined the special ties with the Moroccan Jewish community, particularly its members holding positions of responsibility in Israel.
Finally, the sovereign reiterated the consistent, constant and unchanged position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution living side by side in peace and security; negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties as the only means of achieving a comprehensive and final settlement; and his personal commitment as President of the Al Quds Committee, to safeguarding the Muslim character of the Holy City, adds the same source.
