Hamas Condemns Morocco-Israel Diplomatic Deal as ’Great Disappointment’
The Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas condemns the agreement to normalize diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
"We condemn the signing of the normalization agreement between Morocco and the [Israeli] occupation, and we consider it a great disappointment for the Palestinian people and their cause," Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman for Hamas, wrote on Twitter.
The Palestinian Islamic movement is also unhappy that the head of the Moroccan government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani, who is also the secretary general of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), signed this agreement. In the eyes of Hamas, this is a major failure for the Islamist party. "We call for correcting this blunder in order to preserve the status of Morocco and the history of the party," added Mr. Zuhri.
On Tuesday, King Mohammed VI received an audience with a delegation composed of Jared Kushner, senior advisor to outgoing US President Donald Trump, Meir Ben-Shabbat, Israel’s national security advisor, and Avrahm Joel Berkowitz, special assistant to the President of the United States and special representative for international negotiations. At the end of the meeting, Morocco, the United States and Israel signed a joint declaration.
