Morocco-Israel Ties Grow: Rural Moroccan Town Plans First Twinning with Israeli Municipality

Mekki El Hannoudi, mayor of Louta, a rural commune in the province of Al Hoceima, announced a twinning between his locality and an Israeli municipality.
"As part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between Morocco and Israel, contacts are underway for a twinning between the commune of Louta and one of the Israeli localities," he wrote on his Facebook account.
Mr. El Hannoudi recalled the "need to coordinate with the progressive and pacifist Jewish forces in general to advance the peace process with two states and according to the 1967 borders".
A few days after the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel, King Mohammed VI had received an audience with a delegation composed of Jared Kushner, senior advisor to outgoing US President Donald Trump, Meir Ben-Shabbat, national security advisor of Israel and Avrahm Joel Berkowitz, special assistant to the President of the United States and special representative for international negotiations. At the end of the meeting, Morocco, the United States and Israel signed a joint declaration.
The day after the signing of this declaration, the sovereign addressed a message to Mahmoud Abbas Abou Mazen, President of the State of Palestine, to reassure him of his commitment to always defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
