Morocco’s King Reaffirms Palestinian Cause as Key to Middle East Peace

In a message addressed to the President of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Cheikh Niang, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, King Mohammed VI affirms that the "Palestinian Cause is the cornerstone of any permanent and comprehensive solution in the Middle East".
In this message, the sovereign says he is "deeply convinced that the Palestinian Cause is the cornerstone of any permanent and comprehensive solution in the Middle East, a solution that allows the peoples of the region to live in security, peace, harmony, within the framework of international legality and in accordance with the principle of the two-state solution agreed by the international community.
To achieve this ideal, the king calls for the need to overcome the deadlock in the peace process, and to intensify international efforts to relaunch direct negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties, in order to resolve all contentious issues. He reiterated Morocco’s solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people, President Mahmoud Abbas, his constant and unwavering support for their legitimate rights: the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Al-Quds as its capital, a viable state open to its neighbors and to other religions.
Also, he reaffirmed his commitment to a "just, permanent and comprehensive peace", before stressing that the unilateral measures established in the occupied Palestinian territories "are contrary to the resolutions of international legality, mortgage the chances of reaching the desired solution, exacerbate conflicts, stoke the sense of frustration and fuel extremism".
For the President of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), strengthening the potential and capacities of resistance of the Maqdissis "requires the mobilization and exploitation of all available material resources and means in order to implement human development programs in Al-Quds". "This is the action that we intend to see carried out, under our personal impetus, by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, through the realization of concrete plans and programs in the areas of health, education, housing and social infrastructure," he said.
