Morocco Kénitra Fiat Factory Smart Car Platform Production

The Stellantis plant in Kénitra is changing scale. The Moroccan site has officially launched production of the Fiat Fastback and Grizzly, two new family vehicles that will be marketed from the fourth quarter of 2026.

Both models are based on the Smart Car platform, being used for the first time in the Moroccan plant. This modular architecture can accommodate thermal, hybrid, or fully electric powertrains without requiring major transformations to production lines.

The Fastback adopts a silhouette inspired by coupe SUVs, while the Grizzly focuses more on interior space and modularity. The versions offered will vary according to the needs and infrastructure of different markets.

According to Stellantis, vehicles assembled in Kénitra will not be reserved for the Moroccan market. They will be exported to several countries in Africa and the Middle East, strengthening Morocco’s role as a regional industrial base for the group.

One platform for several future vehicles

The stakes go beyond the launch of the two new Fiat models. The Smart Car platform could serve as the foundation for other group vehicles, allowing Kénitra to progressively accommodate a wider range.

The flexibility of this architecture should help Stellantis share development and manufacturing costs across multiple models. The manufacturer will also be able to adapt powertrains more easily to the particularities of each market.

The Moroccan site now brings together automotive assembly, engine manufacturing, and micromobility activities. This concentration makes it one of Stellantis’s most complete industrial complexes in the region.

More parts manufactured in Morocco

The manufacturer also wants to strengthen its supplier network in Morocco. Its goal is to increase the local integration rate to 75% by 2030, by increasing purchases of parts and components produced near the plant.

This strategy should shorten supply chains, reduce costs, and improve the site’s competitiveness. It could also attract new automotive suppliers around Kénitra.

With the arrival of the Smart Car platform, the Moroccan plant is no longer limited to producing a few determined models. It becomes a base capable of accommodating the next generations of vehicles that Stellantis intends for Africa and the Middle East.
