Morocco Stellantis Factory Challenges Chinese Auto Makers 2026

The Stellantis factory in Kénitra is preparing to assemble the future Fiat Fastback and Grizzly. This major strategic project aims to supply Europe, Africa and the Middle East from the second half of 2026.

To counter the offensive of Chinese manufacturers and recapture market share in Europe, the automotive group is now relying on the competitiveness of its Moroccan ecosystem. This industrial choice must secure profit margins in the highly competitive segment of affordable family vehicles, as part of a long-term strategy that plans the deployment of 60 new models by 2030.

The future Fastback and Grizzly will thus share a common platform capable of integrating conventional thermal engines as well as 100% electric powertrains. The first model will stand out with an expressive silhouette with sleek lines, while the second will offer a more vertical architecture focused on space and practicality.

This acceleration results from an expansion plan of 1.2 billion euros unveiled in July 2025. This massive capital injection allows the factory capacity to reach 535,000 vehicles per year, confirming the site’s central place in global automotive manufacturing, according to Challenge.

The Kénitra infrastructure thus consolidates already proven expertise. The platform currently ensures the production of the Peugeot 208 and has specialized in the assembly of electric quadricycles, such as the Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks-e and Fiat Topolino.
