Morocco-Israel Trade Surges 50% Following Diplomatic Normalization

The effects of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel have not taken long to be felt. It only took a few months for trade between the two countries to flourish. In just six months, trade flows between Rabat and Tel Aviv have soared by 50%.

After the normalization of relations, the new honeymoon between Morocco and Israel has impacted the volume of bilateral trade, which has increased considerably, said Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Friday.

During the virtual meeting organized by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with his counterparts from Israel, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco, Nasser Bourita indicated that "20 flights operating under two airlines have already established their rotation and that one million Israeli tourists are expected per year in Morocco."

Speaking about the evolution of the bilateral agreements signed with the Hebrew state, Bourita said that "government representatives are discussing, meeting and working together, a dozen ministers have initiated direct contacts paving the way for the signing of more than 20 agreements. I myself welcomed my friend Yaïr Lapid last month and we look forward to other important visits, particularly at the level of the Ministers of Economy and Defense."

In addition, Bourita again welcomed the partnerships that have also been launched in sensitive areas, particularly in cybersecurity and interoperability of military forces through joint special forces exercises such as HD-Annual 21.

"The challenge of reconnection was great, but it is now behind us. The challenges of preservation, improvement and the sense of normalization are still ahead of us," noted the Moroccan Foreign Minister.
