Morocco's Foreign Minister Invites Israeli Officials to Rabat, Marking Abraham Accords Anniversary

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, during his participation in the ministerial conference organized virtually by the US State Department to commemorate the first anniversary of the Abraham Accords, invited senior Israeli officials to visit Rabat.

"The normalization of relations with Israel is indeed a historic event that deserves to be commemorated in the sense that it has aroused a new hope and opened the way for an unprecedented momentum," observed the head of Moroccan diplomacy, adding that channels have been opened between the business communities of the two countries, thanks to the creation of a Morocco-Israel Business Council and the Morocco-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIMI).

"The diplomatic missions between Morocco and Israel have already started working, after the visit of my friend (Israeli Foreign Minister) Yaïr Lapid to Rabat last month," he said. Nasser Bourita added that Rabat expects the visit of Israeli officials, including the Israeli Ministers of Economy and Defense.

Under the aegis of former US President Donald Trump, Morocco had normalized its diplomatic relations with Israel on December 10, 2020 in exchange for the American recognition of the kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara. In the wake of this, a tripartite agreement had also been signed. Before Rabat, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan had already restored their relations with the Hebrew state.
